Thank you so much Bill and Ted, your comments mean the world to me. I am overwhelmed...really. Bill thank you for seeing past the wrappings, your response has made my day. Thank you Ted for sharing your own Van Gogh experience, I love hearing "ripped his heart out and handed it to you" that is exactly what he seems to do with painting. How is that possible??? I always tell other artists if they haven't yet had their own Van Gogh Moment to get ready....because they will.

I am new to this... and really like the way that you talk about your work and like Bill says above, these paintings are sombre, deeply felt and speak as much about false hope as of great painting.....at least to me.
I also liked your comment on Van Gogh because I had one of those moments with him too. The show was at the Art Institute a few years ago with Gauguin and as you walked into the exhibition and turned right to see the Van Gogh's.... On the wall were a series of his self portraits to begin the show, that basically ripped his heart out and handed it to you.... they were brilliantly painted of course and set the bar so very high. His work saves him from the inane comments on his sanity, Vincent ties, and umbrellas, and blew away Gauguin once and for all.

I like the somberness of this work. Usually one would expect an artist to play off of the happiness and kitschiness of wrapped presents. There is more to this work than say a Wayne Thiebaud cakes piece, which seems to be a one-liner.
