I really love the color and the assembled works. Very inspiring. There is something that approaches the transcendant in the easy natural way your life shows up in your work. That baby's face thrust right in our face says more for instance about raising a child than any words I have ever read!

The assembled pieces also look like aerial views of futuristic interiors...room scenes.

I, like Joanne, enjoyed reading how the events of your life affected your work. Even though the assembled works appear very different from the painted works, I see both as nesting - gathering strings and scraps of cardboard like an actual bird might do - but I did not recognize that until your painted "nests." Sadie's portraits make a perfect bridge between the two. Thanks for sharing.

I really love how the baby becomes abstraced the more you look at it. features, shadows, highlights flatten and shift. It's one of those works that people have described as "always becoming." It's something you view over and over and it's always new. -- Nice!

I'm lucky to be Kate's mother-in-law and Sadie Moss Lewis' grandma.
I've really enjoyed this interview. It reveals more about Kate and where from her creativity flows. Sadie is so lucky. Because of her Mother she will be a very interesting young girl and creative in her own way. Her Dad, my son, will bring still other gifts to the table.

I've visited the Louvre, Jeu de paume, and many other famous museums, but truthfully neither side of our families have been "into" the arts and I love the exposure and patience that Kate has shown us through this interview and visits to Chicago to know her more, and to share in her concepts as she moves forward in her world, and the world of her family.

Thank you Kate.

Love to all,
Carolyn

Great honest interview. I love that Kate is open about how each phase of her life affects her artwork. Her assemblages really do convey a sense of wild creativity, a sort of endless possibilities scenario -very much like the excitement of a newborn entering one's life. The paintings of Sadie are softly painted with washes of bold color -I like that they aren't precious, as paintings of infants can get. (btw Kate -Sadie never disturbed me at the studio -quite the opposite) Kate's new paintings of interiors are so fresh -I was surprised they were sourced from magazines.
