What a great open-book interview to read. I have know Darrell for quite sometime now and I have yet to meet someone as involved in the arts as he. His passion for producing art is unparalleled. Like he said, he would die if he wasn't an artist. How many of us can say that about our professions? Bravo, Darrell.

Thumbs UP for this guy!
Yes...I am a fan of his!
He began painting in layers in a large studio high school art room amidst Iowa corn fields.
This was a wonderful interview to read and share with students and anyone as to "wherever you are, there you are.....like whatever you are doing."

Wow! What a wonderful article. Some aspects I already know BUT so much more was disclosed. I especially valued the honesty and candid answers. I have been very fortunate to have known some very outstanding and successful artists and Darrell is right up there. The article was a prime example of the artist and his work--natural with many, many layers of depth and sensitivity. Yes, he can be crabby also. But can't we all!! I feel very fortunate to take an fabulous open studio class with, to know and count him as a friend and to be able to watch him grow and develp into an even more mature artist. A great article--well worth a beginner, or struggling, or fully-developed artist to read.

This was fun reading about Darrell's adventures in getting to where he is now. I've only experienced Darrell and his work in the past year and I must say I love what he does. Photographs of his work do not do it justice. His work must be seen in person…
