Mt. Vernon, IL — William Conger’s work is inspired by his life in Chicago and the art made there. It is not simply formal abstraction. “What makes Conger’s work unique is his blending of very formal abstract compositions with glimpses into the actual world plus the added kick of metaphorical allusions making art and to historical and geographical realities,” says Lanny Silverman, Curator at the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Many of these are local references and most often found in his titles.
